Art and Balance for Special Needs Kids

Liz Kantorski

Playing on a gradual rocking board feels like riding on a gentle wave. You can ride by yourself or with a partner or two. You can stand, sit, or lie down on the board,or  rock back and forth or side-to-side.
The motion is playful, soothing, stimulating, regulating, connecting, and joyful—while core muscles, cross lateral connections, and balance are engaged, activated, and strengthened. Each week focuses on a different shape as your child creates movement circles with low balance beams, gradual rocking boards, hula hoops, and foam mats.

Open and instructional playtime includes exploring and experiencing a variety of rocking boards and other interactive movement tools, as well as a series of playful poses, exercises, and movement games that arre accompanied by music. In addition, many art activities include playful expressions of shape and color through painting and drawing.

A wind-down time includes sharing together.

Appropriate for children ages three to five years old. A parent, grandparent, or caregiver must accompany and participate with their child.
